The Dog Days of Summer
The dog days or dog days of summer are the hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal (the rising of a celestial object at approximately the same time as the rising of the sun) rising of the star system Sirius, which Hellenistic astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck. They are now taken to be the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Wikipedia
Returning To The Scene Of The Crime
I don’t know about you but August seemed to be dragging out for me. So when my friend Craig Postal invited Patty and me to “Music Bingo”, a fundraiser for Little Black Book Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I accepted.
Normally, I would prefer to send money to support a worthy cause, rather than attend trivia, bingo and even galas. But the days seemed to be dragging out, I love my friend Craig, and I hate Alzheimer’s. So I accepted his invitation. Little did I know the event would be held in the Student Center at XXXXXXXXXX University.
Here’s my view from the AB Community Room in the student center. The photo was taken with my Samsung cell phone.
And when I panned my camera off to the right, low and behold, there’s the infamous open gate just waiting to be entered.
If at this point in the story you’re lost, it will all become clear by reading last week’s blog, The Secret Photoshoot.
Little Black Book
You might have asked yourself, what is Little Black Book? Until recently I hadn’t heard of LBB, but in the last year or so I’ve been bumping into activities and events that this women’s service and support group have been presenting. Come to find out they are the largest donor organization to Toys for Tots in the St. Louis market and from what I can see, they do a lot of good in their communities. Here’s a tip of the hat to Little Black Book and a thank you for a good cover story as I returned to the scene of the crime.
Sunflowers
Here’s a pic you’ll find in Amazing Photos (the current gallery of my favorites). Amy Gill met Patty and me in the Missouri River Bottoms for a fun shoot in the sunflowers. We began working at 5.45 am and this was one of the last shots as the sun became too strong. Thanks for the work Amy !
And for your viewing pleasure, here’s a link to that gallery. Amazing Photos. Unfortunately the sunflowers have expired, but I’m busy planning some amazing fall family shoots and portraits. Right now is the time to be planning those photos. If you are ready to book or need more information, here’s how to contact me.
Wrapping It Up
Earlier this month I was worried so I called my doctor. When he asked me what my symptoms were, I explained I’d been feeling feverish about a third of the time, feeling sultry about a third of the time and just felt like howling at the moon the rest of the time that I wasn’t dodging thunderstorms and suffering through oppressive heat. Boy! Was I relieved to find out that I had the Dog Days of Summer Syndrome and that I could expect it to pass sometime in September.
Be well.
Your friend,
Mike
