Every Photo Tells A Story

The Photographer’s Soul

The phrase “a picture is worth a thousand words” is commonly attributed to newspaper editor Arthur Brisbane, who used it in a 1911 newspaper article. However, the attribution is somewhat uncertain, as similar expressions appeared around the same time period in various publications.

Every Photo Tells a Story

Do you think it’s still true? That a picture is worth 1,000 words? The answer in my humble opinion is “it can be”. If words were currency, they would definitely have been devalued by the ease of access and shear glut of photos taken today compared to the early 1900s. Every photo tells a story, however I think some are very short stories.

I could easily write a thousand words about the bridge depicted in the banner of this blog. Made in the cathedral known as Muir Woods just north of San Francisco, the trees range from six to ten centuries old and inspire a reverence that can be felt in your chest…

However a photo lunch at a fast food joint might only inspire two words. “My hamburger”. The End. Is it worthy to share with friends on social? That depends on their diet, I suppose.

Recent Projects

I’ve been fairly busy with recent projects making photos that tell a story for clients that value the service. Meet Bob, an engineer for his entire career who found this 1989 C4 Corvette in a barn and purchased it 2000. Bob restored this C4 back to its original beauty. This Corvette has the Greenwood modification which gives this C4 Corvette a more aggressive and sporty look along with some performance upgrades. Bob is a proud member of the Route 66 Corvette Club in St. Louis, MO. The car will be featured in a nationally published 2026 calendar for the SSG Alex Viola Foundation.

Another project for a discerning client was a portrait session for Shayla Kleffner, a real estate professional. Shayla had a certain look she was going for and this is one of the images we created during our session. (There are a 1000 words in this photo.) If you are looking for an agent in the St. Louis market, I’d recommend contacting Shayla.

And I’ll leave you with a final photo. Patty and I photographed the Love To Run Marathon in St. Charles, MO last weekend and toward the end of the day I shot this photo of a spectator. She was too tired to tell me her story, but maybe that is the story!
