On A Serious Note

My Hair

Since my early twenties (more than 40 years) I’ve kept my hair fairly short for ease of maintenance. It began to get a little longer when I committed full time to this photography gig in 2018. I don’t know what it was about March 2020, but I’ve only seen a barber once since then and now my hair is turning into some serious work! I wash it every other day, but now it takes hours to dry. And you should see my shampoo and cream rinse expenses. I haven’t figured out a way to wake up and not have a knotted mess that takes some serious effort to brush out. And I’m not even going to talk about the f’n hair that is all over the bathroom and shower.

Just as I was considering cutting it all off my friend Wendy Brennan sent me a message saying she was “digging” my hair and my friend Anna Alt informed me in no uncertain terms that I needed to notify her before I do anything crazy like cut my hair. Both these comments were unsolicited and has me wondering how these women, who’ve never met each other, can know what I’m thinking.

And in case you don’t know me, “On a serious note” is completely tongue in cheek. There are much more serious issues in our world today like why you haven’t had a professional portrait made in the last 10 years.

But Seriously

But seriously, had I known that most people like going to the photographer about as much as they like going to the dentist or the dealership to purchase a new car, I might have chosen to go into sales or hygiene.

I have a friend who has been threatening to get a head shot whenever the weight gets lost. In the meanwhile he had to have surgery and nearly died from complications. I thought how sad it might be in a worse case scenario, that the family is left only with shitty phone pics to remember him by.

The answer to the question, “Why should you occasionally have a professional portrait made?” is legacy. Get it in print and even if it ends up in a box in the basement, it will be there for future generations to discover long after your phone batteries have died.

On The Lighter Side

On the lighter side, I thought you might enjoy a slideshow. It’s impossible to share all my favorites from 2021, but here are just a few. I hope my work finds the beauty in each body.

Wrapping This One Up

My favorite thing about the holidays is writing and receiving holiday cards. The thing I think about the most is that every sender took at least a moment, and invested in some paper and a stamp to convey their greetings. I can feel the good energy as I hold these cards in my hands.
